i SAW a female downy woodpecker this afternoon, trying to peck a hole in my concrete street light pole.
she gave up pretty quickly. exercise in futility.
what a pretty bird!

I want to thanks you for identifying the bird on my blog. I looked at what you found and it seems to be spot on...with the long legs, long beak and the cinnamon color on it's sides.
